Maria Damanaki is pursuing an Industrial PhD within the framework of the program “Industrial Doctorate in Computer and Telecommunications Sciences” at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Ioannina, in collaboration with Avisense, a spin-off company of the Industrial Systems Institute (ISI) of the Athena Research Center. Avisense specializes in enhancing environmental perception using low-cost sensors. The aim of the doctoral research is the design and development of innovative and robust algorithms for multi-modal and collaborative robotic perception and the title of her PhD dissertation is: «Advanced Multi-Modal and Multi-Agent Perception Solutions for Connected Ground and Aerial Unmanned Vehicles». In parallel, she works as a researcher at the Industrial Systems Institute (ISI) of the Athena Research Center, focusing on autonomous driving and computer vision systems. She holds a Master’s degree in Information Processing Systems and Machine Intelligence, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, both from the University of Patras. She has a strong academic and technical background in computer vision, data fusion, and machine learning. Her research and academic experience includes object detection and tracking through sensor fusion from cameras and LiDAR, multi-agent data fusion, image segmentation using 3D Convolutional Neural Networks (3D CNNs), and statistical signal processing. She has implemented a variety of algorithms, such as Kalman and Particle Filters, k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN), and Perceptron, applied to tasks ranging from multi-object tracking to gesture recognition. She is highly proficient in Python, MATLAB, and C++, and has practical experience with tools such as Google Colab, Spyder, and Arduino. Maria combines strong theoretical foundations with practical engineering skills, contributing actively to innovative research and development projects.
